이제 자세히 들어가 볼까요?  [Let's review the vocabulary list.]

1.  catapult A into B
A를 B로 쏘아올리다.
그런데 여기서는 suddenly make someone become very famous 란 뜻입니다.
원래 catapult는 명사로 투석기나 새총(slingshot)이기도 합니다.

The film has helped catapult Harvey~~ into the awards season spotlight.


2. receive multiple nods
여러번의 승낙을 받다.
그러나 여기서는 [여러 부문에 후보가 되다]란 뜻입니다.
nod=go-ahead=permission=affirmation

"Inglorious Basterds,"~~~ and "A Single Man," ~~ received multiple nods as well.

참고로 "Basterds"는 bastards의 '타란티노식' 스펠링이라고 감독이 밝혔습니다. 


3. invictus
정복되지 않은, 결코 이길 수 없는 
unconquered
영어가 아니라 라틴어입니다. in=not이고 victus는 [정복하다, 이기다]와 연관이 있겠지요.

4. to be snubbed
퇴짜맞다

"Invictus" was snubbed in the best picture category.
즉 최고작품상 후보에는 못올랐다는 뜻입니다.


5. star wattage
스타의 유명세, 영향력, 인기, 힘 
star power를 좀더 멋부린표현

The organization nominates based on star wattage instead of performance.


6. a red carpet spectacle
유명스타들을 보는 재미, 유명스타들을 보는 장관, 유명스타들이 연출하는 장관
red carpet은 스타들이 리무진에서 내릴 때 앞에 깔려 있지요. ^^

~~partly so it can put a red carpet spectacle.

7. tea leaves
미래 일에 관한 조짐, 운세, 운명
[People sometimes look at the leaves left at the bottom of a cup to find out what will happen in the future.]라고 사전에 실려있습니다.
즉, 우리가 손금보고 네잎크로버 점보듯이 차마시고 남은 잎들로 점을 치는 거죠.

8. mirror s.t.
~을 반영하다 
reflect s.t.

9. build momentum
추진력을 얻다, 키우다

10. fresh ammunition
새로운 탄약
즉 여기서는 [새로운 마케팅 수단]입니다.

11. It's been a tough year for
~~에게 힘든 한해였어요

It's been a tough year for independent companies.

12. revitalize an industry
한 산업에 다시 활력을 불어넣다

13. to be shuttered
to be shut down 

14. get a boost with s.t.
~~로 부터 힘을 얻다


15. benefit from the attention
그러한 관심으로 부터 혜택을 보다

16. fare particular well
선전하다, 일을 잘 진행하다

17. single out
특별히 선택하다

18. As always,
늘 그렇듯이 

19. get brushed aside
관심 밖으로 밀려나다, 무시받다

20. gush over
여기서는 [칭찬을 퍼부어대다]란 뜻입니다.

Critics have gushed over "An Education," but it received a lone nod in the best
actress category. 
즉 비평가들의 격찬을 받았지만 단 한부문에서만 후보에 올랐다는 거죠.


21. to be shunned
=get brushed aside와 여기서는 비스한 뜻입다.  동어반복을 피하기 위해 쓰였습니다.
shun somebody = avoid somebody

22. be completely ignored
완전히 무시되다

23. after a deadpan pause
잠시 무표정하게 있다가 

24. Yippee
exclamation of joy or victory

25. congratulatory e-mail messages
축하 이메일들


26. be nominated for
~~부문에 후보가 되다

27. glee
큰 기쁨 
great delight, happiness, joy

28. a group of misfits
사회부적응자들, 남과 잘 어울리지 못하는 사람들

29. made-for-television movies
TV상영용으로만 만든 영화들

시나리오 작가들 (협회?)의 파업
